oh dear...i've fallen behind...

since my last post....
what a mish-mash of stuff happened...
emma went on a canoe/camping trip.
(mama was so glad to see her home safe and sound)

i was asked to add some colour to our town's
newest and most fabulous performing arts studio.

this is what we came up with for the sitting area.
LOTS OF COLOUR!

it was so wonderful to muck about with paint.
i love to muck about.

my little brother's little dude turned 3.
how cute is he?

managed to convince the cousins to sit still for 2 minutes.

this is when i started to take photos of the sunset...

one hundred and eighty two
photos of the sunset...
to be exact...

because it was an amazing show.
seriously a.m.a.z.i.n.g.

my 2 girls got ready for the first day back at school.
grades 8 and 12.
BIG year ahead.

and Mikey's Mom (aka Grandma K)
turned 80.
she has the spirit of an 18 year old.
flirted with my camera all evening.
bless her heart.

a ridiculously simple idea...

i wanted something simple over the fireplace for summer...
something cheap.
something quick.
something easy peasy...
i found a yard of fabric that i thought
would really bring a summer feeling to my room.
i paid about $5 for it.
we had a large white board stashed away
and i thought the size would do...

i duct taped it over the back of the board
(didn't want to see the contrasting frame through the fabric)
*DUCT TAPE PEOPLE*
biggest problem...
do i hang the stripes horizontally
or vertically?

it is LEANING against the wall...
no problem

we'll see how it progresses over the summer
might add some words
or some images
or i might not...
k.i.s.s.
(keep it simple stupid)

wordless wednesday...not this time, i've got something to say!

for the first time in years
i am growing some tomatoes
...yum...can't wait...

i've been busy around here
weeding and planting
and getting the yard spiffed up.

i've also been working on this  project.
a few weeks back
i picked this dresser up from the side of the road
(yes neighbours...THAT ugly dresser)
but it was free
and it was made to fit.

for a year or so
we've been on the hunt...
but nothing we found had the right dimensions...
so when we saw this we thought
"that looks pretty darn close"

not close...
bang on!
and it's solid wood,
but boy was it ugly...

it was a mustard colour with a coat of red under it.
the handles were not going to work...
i filled in holes and tried to smooth things out a bit.
at some point i just decided to go for a distressed look
because it was never going to be perfect.

good thing i'm a firm believer
that it doesn't have to be perfect
to be a beauty...
i even decided to add paper to the top
and roughed it up a bit.
I LOVE IT!

....just take a moment...
there's more.

this summer i am hooked on green
watch out...
'cause i've got a can of spray paint...

and i'm trigger happy...

this will be the last summer for the old picnic table
but i thought we could fix it
(hide the loose paint and rotting wood)
and make it work for a few more months.
i stapled a vinyl tablecloth to the top and the seats
and we are good to go!

too busy to cut the grass...
but that's ok
because the yard is full of wildflowers...
and i love them!

ahemmm...look what i did today...(blush)

first things first...this IS NOT a how-to post.
because i have no idea how to do this......
i have two of these old sturdy chairs.
the cat has been the only one enjoying them.
they've been stored away until i figured out what
to do with them.
well...i stripped one of them.

i had bought this red corduroy  about 4 years ago.
i just went for it.
staple gun in hand.

i just kept stretching and folding and stapling.

i am so sure that this is not the right way to
cover a button....but never forget
that a glue gun can be your best friend.

i love how the back turned out.
it was the main reason i kept putting
this job on hold.

with the curved back it made things tricky.
so i just made it work.

so there you go...
it needs a good steam and some paint
for the legs.
but i love how it turned out.

***hi link friends...thank you for poppin by!

the sun has been brilliant and the air is feeling a few degrees warmer. hallelujah. seriously people. you can't imagine the frozen #*!$ we've been living in. it has snowed almost every day for the last 3 months... and it's been really, REALLY COLD!! as soon as i can hang out in the fresh air without my lips freezing together...well, i'll be there. but besides doing all this complaining...we are getting stuff done around here! ordering flooring, calling in the building inspector, choosing a fireplace, moving and THROWING OUT stuff! it feels so GOOD! so tomorrow i am having a couple of rooms measured for new carpet. isn't that exciting? we will be gaining a ton of space. a family room....we will be spreading out around here. it's been over two years of living in pretty close quarters. we are all looking forward to this. yeah, so as soon as we get everything done....it will be spring........and we'll want to go outside.

think and pink

well, i shall share my little project too. i don't know what kind of fabric this is. it feels nice and it is a good weight and the lady at the fabric store agreed with me that this was going to do the job. see that little bit of plaid down there in the corner shot...>>>>>

we're thinking it might make a pretty sash, something we can add later. just for fun.

i know i need to start this yesterday. i know, i know. i am a procrastinator. i thrive under pressure. emma is not like me. she wants her dress now.

so, i was tagged was i?

six word life motto.......

hmmmm

respect, empathize, live and love unconditionally.

that's just off the top of my head. had i the time to REALLY put some thought into it....well...it could be better. thanks blogger buddy elizabeth. now to think of who to pass along this challenge....
